Editing

My closet is my masterpiece.  Everyday it seems like I am cleaning it out or rearranging it. For everyone else in my house, my closet is their own personal shopping mall and my mother is the number one shopper. My mom is always saying things such as, “I wish I would have saved all my clothes from when I was your age, they would definitely be in style now”, or “ the clothes in your closet look just like mine when I was your age. Why is it that things like style and culture always seem to repeat themselves? I am here to tell you why. Style has to come from somewhere. When designers run out of fresh styles, they go back to a once popular style that has had a break, and they bring it back. Our society is not the most original. One person could start liking a style from 40 years and it will spread from there.
The styles I am referring to are skinny jeans, the high waisted skirts and pants, the big belts around the waist, the thin graphic tees tucked in, rompers, maxi dresses, and so much more. These are the most popular styles to be wearing right now. These styles are seen in all the magazines, on television shows, and even right here on campus. When I looked at the UMBC Skipjack from 1968, I saw all these styles. I saw girls wearing pea coats, high boots with short skirts, and the skinny jeans. It seems to me that the female college students at UMBC from the 60’s are very similar to now.
These styles were so popular back then because they were a little bit scandalous and sexy, but still classy. Young adults and teenagers have always felt the need to rebel. To wear eye catching outfits like these, it takes a bit of a rebel. This has something to do with why these styles are so popular now. They are flashy and chic and make women feel a little on the deviant side.

Anxious Reader

Growing up I was never a fan of reading.   Anytime I would start reading a book, I would quit about five pages in.  When there was reading assignments for school I would usually use online cheat summaries.  My mother was always telling me, “Taylor you are missing out, if you find a book you can really get in to you will love it.”  Even after hearing this, I still could not bring myself to read.
When I came to high school I started getting very involved in school.  I was on the dance team, the pom squad, the SGA, and I was in all honors and AP classes.  These were very stressful.  From the stress, I started developing really bad anxiety at night.  Rather than going to sleep, I would worry about all the things I had to do the next day, or for days to come. Since I wasn’t getting much sleep at night, I would sleep during my classes and my grades began to suffer.
My mother began to notice my grades slipping and suggested I find some way to sleep better.  This is when I turned to books.  I began reading a little every night.  It would put me right to sleep.  The books would take my mind off of everything else I was stressing about.  My sleeping was improving, my grades had improved, and I actually started to love reading, now I read all different types of books all the time

Blog 1 Assignment

My name is Taylor Mast and I am a transfer student this year. I am from Brooklyn Park, MD, right outside of Baltimore. Growing up I lived with my mom, my step-dad and my two sisters, visiting my dad and my brother every other weekend. I attended Brooklyn Park Elementary and Middle school, and I graduated from North County High school. I was a member of SGA, the POM squad, and the Dance Company. I have always loved to dance. After I graduated high school I attended West Virginia University for 2 years. While I was there I played on the schools rugby team. I had a lot of fun, but financial reasons brought me back to an in-state university. I am really looking forward to being at UMBC and getting to know the campus a little better.
